Manual of ePub Maker

Quick Start

To make your ePub book, you just need load you manuscript by either following steps,

  • Import multiple HTML files(Only files in one folder)
  • Import a MS Word document.(one document for one ebook)
Then click Make ePub button.

Optional steps

  • Type in the book name
  • specify a place to save the book
  • Assign a book cover picture

Additional Options

  • Preview the HTML file or imported Word document by clicking the button at the right corner of toolbar.
  • General settings and advanced settings, such as HTML filter and optimization, auto title generation.

Edit the chapters title and order

  • Drag the left bar of the list to change the chapter order. Auto-resort will be available in later version.
  • The chapter title can be edited, also can be generated automatically from filename or HTML title.

Import

Word Document

  • Only one Word document can be imported for a ePub book.
  • The document can be imported when editing in Word(from 1.1)
  • MS Word needed for importing *.doc.
  • ePub Maker 1.0 can import *.docx without MS Word, while 1.1 temporarily use Word to import to realize auto split.

HTML Files

Import from web pages is a handy way for professional users, but may be not fit for novices.

To simplify the process, please ensure,

  • All HTML files must be in one folder.
  • All HTML files must be in the root of the folder, not subfolder.
  • Resource files, such as images or stylesheet file can be in root folder or subfolder.
  • HTML file must be with a extension of .htm or .html
  • Press shift to select more than one file.

To match ePub standard, the HTML files must fulfill the following requirements,

  • Source HTML must be valid XHTML.
  • ePub Maker can check and fix some invalid XHTML, such as attributes.
  • ePub Maker cannot fix borken or overlapped HTML.

Cover

An ePub book can have a picture as cover or not.

If you already have a cover page in your HTML files or in your Word document, most readers will take it(the first page) as the cover.

But some devices still need you assign a cover picture.

Format

The cover picture can be any of the following format:

  • JPEG *.jpg,*.jpe,*.jpeg
  • GIF *.gif
  • PNG *.png
  • BMP *.bmp
To fit for various stretched size and screen scale and resolution, JPEG format is recommended.

Resolution and scale

Cover picture can be of any size. But it's better fitting the screen size of target device.
Most eBook reader's screen scale is 3:4, and 600*800 is a popular screen resolution. So a 600*800 or 300*400 picture is recommended.
